Ted is a carefree little bear who loves nothing more than lounging under the shade of a tree, slowly munching on apples. He’s a bit slow to react, which means he often gets teased by the clever owl, Olly. But Ted never seems to have any worries—except for one little secret he keeps. Every night, when he falls asleep, Ted magically travels to another world where he becomes a glowing, squishy little silicone bear.
Ted never knows where he’ll end up. Sometimes, he finds himself in a classroom, glowing brightly in a teacher’s hand to catch the kids’ attention. Other times, he’s in a child’s home, playing pretend games (he’s even seen silicone versions of Olly and Kyle, but they just stand still like statues, not aware like he is). But the place Ted visits most often is the cozy bedroom of a little girl named Elisa.
Elisa is afraid of the dark, so every night, she hugs Ted close, whispering her little secrets to him. Ted knows that Elisa has a crush on her classmate Marco, doesn’t like eating arugula, and wishes her dad would come home early to play baseball with her. Her best friend is Rachel.
“And… you’re my best friend, too,” Elisa whispers one night, giving Ted a gentle kiss on the forehead. Ted beams with pride, glowing softly with a warm yellow light as he watches over Elisa while she drifts off to sleep. Living between these two worlds makes Ted the happiest little bear in the world.
But one day, Elisa’s family moves to a new house. During the move, the box Ted was in got knocked over, and Ted tumbled out into the bushes by the roadside. Elisa was heartbroken when she realized Ted was missing. She searched everywhere for him, but Ted had run out of power and could only lie quietly in the bushes, watching Elisa desperately look for him.
Back in Breathing Land, life went on peacefully, but Ted wasn’t happy anymore. One morning, he got up early, crossed mountains and valleys, and made his way to the little cottage of the Big-Eared Dog Witch on the edge of the forest. Ted asked the witch if there was any way he could reunite with Elisa. The witch replied, “There is a way, but it comes at a cost. If you choose to be with Elisa, you’ll remain a silicone bear forever and can never return to Breathing Land.”
Ted returned home with a heavy heart, thinking about it for a long time. He loved his friends in Breathing Land and didn’t want to leave them. But after a few days, Ted went back to the witch and said, “I’ve made up my mind. I want to go to the other world. I love my friends here, but Elisa needs me more. I’m her best friend.”
So, the Big-Eared Dog Witch granted Ted’s wish. Ted found himself in the other world. It was dark, and a light rain was falling. Ted’s body automatically began to glow brightly, startling the little bugs in the bushes. Just then, Elisa, who was staring out her window missing Ted, noticed the glowing light. She ran outside as fast as she could, scooped Ted up from the bushes, and hugged him tightly. Even though Ted could no longer move or talk, he felt incredibly happy.
Back in Breathing Land, the other animals realized Ted was missing and searched everywhere for him, but there was no sign of him. Olly suggested they visit the Big-Eared Dog Witch, who might know what happened. When they arrived, the witch told them that Ted had gone to the human world and had given up all his time in Breathing Land so Elisa could find him. Now, he couldn’t return.
“We can’t lose Ted,” Kyle said firmly. “Let’s all give a little bit of our time to bring Ted back.” The other animals nodded in agreement and prayed to the Big-Eared Dog Witch. Moved by their friendship, the witch allowed each friend to contribute a bit of their time. A flash of white light later, Ted was back in Breathing Land.
Ted’s life returned to normal, and he became a happy little bear once again. During the day, he played with his friends in Breathing Land, and at night, he traveled to Elisa’s world, becoming her special bear. But things had changed a little. One day, Elisa’s mom gave her a new silicone animal—Kyle. As Elisa’s mom turned away, Kyle winked at Ted, as if to say, “Welcome back, old friend.”
